I began my yoga practice shortly after a spinal injury in 2001 while training for my first half marathon. It was just one week away and I was feeling pretty confident about my run the next week in Calgary, Alberta (Canada). Well unfortunately, my sudden injury prevented that from happening.
After weeks of various therapists and treatments, I was able to comfortably walk again. Upon returning home I was introduced to yoga and this has been my constant practice. And yes, I have had to change my practice at various times in my life to “go with the flow” based on whatever was happening in my changing body, however it has been yoga that has been my sustaining practice. At times, my practice has been slow and still and at other times it has been powerful and flowing. However it is the steadiness and acceptance of the practice that continues to draw me to the mat.
In 2007 I took my first 200 hour Yoga Teacher Training program where I learned about the many elements (limbs) of Yoga. The more I learned, the more I felt a deep connection to the practice.
I have worked with people with various abilities including those recovering from cancer as well as those with heart disease.
When I am not on the mat, I love to cycle, hike, play tennis, golf, ski and do moderate weights training. I spend as much time outside as I possibly can (never enough as I love what each season brings; well most of the time). I also enjoy spending time with my family and friends.
On the mat, (as in life) we arrive with various goals and needs as we move through our lives, however the steadiness of the practice and the stillness of the mind can lead us to a healing place, both physically and emotionally.
